About the Coach

Hello, I’m Elizabeth Peters — Founder and Director of Preventionistas, a Public Benefit Corporation.

Welcome to our website. I’m so glad you’re here, and I’m excited to share a little about myself and the impact I hope to make.

My passion is prevention. It’s at the heart of who I am — a “Preventionista” — and it’s why I founded Preventionistas.

For years, I practiced as a dental hygienist both in the U.S. and Switzerland. Through countless clinical encounters and personal experiences, including the painful loss of loved ones, I came to deeply understand that making healthy choices isn’t always easy. People face complex barriers — whether it’s lack of awareness, ingrained family habits, limited education, or simply convenience. Health often takes a back seat.

I know this from my own life. As a teenager, growing up in the late 1980s and early ’90s, I went through a difficult time. At 17, influenced by older peers and grappling with my own self-worth, I developed an eating disorder — a struggle that took years to overcome. It was a long road filled with setbacks, but with support from professionals, the grounding practices of yoga and journaling, and a deep desire to understand the “why” behind it all, I slowly found my way back to health.

That experience changed me forever. It instilled deep empathy and a relentless drive to help others before they hit rock bottom.

Now, more than 30 years later — with a graduate degree in Public Health, hard-earned wisdom, and firsthand understanding of behavioral change — I support others as a health and wellness coach and educator. My work is rooted in the 6 Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine, as defined by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine:

  • A whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern
  • Regular physical activity
  • Restorative sleep
  • Stress management
  • Avoidance of risky substances
  • Positive social connections

I guide individuals toward sustainable wellness, helping them reduce chronic disease risk and achieve “whole person” optimal health. For those who are interested, I also offer private yoga instruction by appointment — weaving in mindfulness and movement as powerful tools for healing.

Nature plays a vital role in my own well-being, and it’s central to the way I live and work. Whether I’m walking with our animal companions or hiking high alpine mountains, being outdoors nourishes me. That love of nature led me to Permaculture. As a certified Permaculturist, I design regenerative systems to help people transform their home environments into thriving ecosystems that support both personal and planetary health.

Every service I offer is designed with one goal in mind: to make a meaningful difference — for individuals, communities, and the planet.

Thank you for stopping by. I’d love to hear from you and learn how we might walk this wellness path together.

Warmly,

Elizabeth
